Massive Migration of 18 E-commerce Sites to Cloud
Led the migration roadmap of 18 e-commerce sites from monolithic architecture (EC2) to Serverless with horizontal scaling (Fargate + Aurora), eliminating chronic regional failures and achieving 50% infrastructure cost reduction despite increased traffic.
The Problem
18 e-commerce sites hosted on oversized EC2 instances with databases coupled on the same servers. High regional failure risk where a bad practice simultaneously affected groups of brands. Rigid vertical scalability with high fixed costs and recurring outages due to lack of deployment standardization.
The Solution
I defined a migration strategy to a Serverless model with horizontal scaling using AWS Fargate and Aurora Serverless. Decoupled databases from compute, isolating each platform. Created implementation manuals and provided specialized technical support to the team to ensure repeatable, high-quality deployments for all 18 platforms.

Case Study
From Monolith Risk to Serverless Resilience
The Challenge: The Regional Monolith Risk
High Regional Failure Risk
All sites were hosted on oversized EC2 instances with databases on the same servers (dangerous coupling). A bad deployment practice or outage simultaneously affected groups of brands with regional presence.
Rigid Vertical Scalability
The system could only grow by purchasing larger servers, implying high fixed costs and poor response to traffic spikes.
Chronic Bad Practices
Lack of deployment standardization caused recurring outages, impacting reputation and sales.
The Architectural Solution: Serverless Horizontal Scalability
The Serverless Principle
I abandoned expensive and risky vertical scaling, migrating to a horizontal scaling model with AWS Fargate and AWS RDS Aurora Serverless. This allows the system to scale elastically only when traffic demands it.
Critical Decoupling
I separated databases from compute, isolating each platform and eliminating the risk of one site's outage affecting a group of brands.
Standardization and Replication
I supervised the migration process, creating implementation manuals and providing technical support to the e-commerce team to optimize the new infrastructure, ensuring repeatable, high-quality deployments for all 18 platforms.
The Impact: Resilience and Financial Savings (ROI)
Immediate Cost Savings
Serverless infrastructure optimization (Fargate and Aurora) resulted in a 50% infrastructure cost reduction, despite supporting higher traffic volume than the previous system.
Operational Stability
Recurring outages were eliminated, ensuring business continuity for all 18 brands across the region.
Team Empowerment
The manuals and support provided ensured that the internal team could manage and maintain the new cloud-native ecosystem autonomously, achieving adoption of new deployment best practices.
